Destination Portugal,
The
Destination Management Company, was founded by Ursula MacTisell, a sales and marketing
professional in the travel industry since 1966. Her career started in
New York, where she was employed by Alitalia Airlines. Her main focus
was to develop new programs as well as promoting and selling incentive
groups to Italy.
In 1975 she moved to Portugal where she created and developed a North
American Department for a ground supplier in Lisbon. During that time
she also spent two summers as Shore Excursion Manager on board the Royal
Viking Line giving her a vast experience and exposure in handling shore
excursions.
In 1983, Ursula started her own company, geared primarily to the
American market and specialising in incentive groups, conferences and
meetings, as well as handling all the shore excursions and pre and post
tours for Royal Viking in Lisbon.
In 1986 due to the Gulf War the U.S. market was practically null, so at
that time Ursula embraced the opportunity to enter the U.K. market, since
English was the language she was most fluent and familiar with, having
made all her studies in the British School in Madrid where she grew up.
At this time she had the luck to meet David Buse, owner of Destinations
Unlimited. They came to an agreement and her company was the fifth DMC
to join this prestigious organisation.
With her in depth knowledge of Portugal and understanding the needs of
the incentive market and conferences and meetings, the company has
become a unique specialist in handling groups to this great destination
and, as a result, over the last 30 years has won the trust of some of
the major incentive houses in the United Kingdom, United States and
Canada, such as Maritz, PPSI, The Works London, People and Places,
Carlson Marketing, Medical Action, to name a few. In addition to the
long list of incentives houses, Destination Portugal has also handled
many corporate accounts such as Reader’s Digest, Herbalife, Tupperware,
Oracle, People Magazine, Fox TV, Citibank, Visa International, Canon,
among others. References are available upon request.
